Suggested Itinerary: (Tidepools and Fort)
As always, leave early to avoid the crowds. This trip is pricier than others as you will need to pay for State park entry fees and a ferry ride. Rosario Beach is a fantastic area with easy trails for kids and tide pools to explore. Bring donuts or other snacks to enjoy at one of the picnic areas. Around lunchtime, head south onto Whidbey to Fort Casey. Stop in Oak Harbor or Coupeville for lunch or pickup lunch to eat at the Fort. Spend the afternoon exploring gun emplacements, the lighthouse, and the beach. Fly kites if you brought them. Catch the ferry from Clinton in the evening and stop at the park right off the ferry for another lighthouse and beach. If it is hot there is ice cream. If it is late, watch the sunset. Check traffic and get dinner in Muklilteo before hitting I-5 to let the herd thin some or hit shopping and other bars/restaurants on the way back to Oso. It is a long day of driving.
