Suggested Itinerary: (Ross Dam hike and then sight-see back to Oso)

As always, leave early to avoid the crowds. We like to let the dog off the leash so getting to the trails ahead of the people driving from the cities is paramount. If you don’t make coffee to go be sure to stop at Moe’s in Darrington for a cup and a treat or some breakfast. Continue north to Rockport and stop at Howard Miller Steelhead Park to stretch your legs and use the facilities. Continue along Hwy 20 to the Ross Dam trail head. This isn’t an easy walk, but it shouldn’t kill you either. Maybe not great for toddlers or your elderly parents. You hike down to a dam and can walk across it to the other side for some awesome pictures. It’s almost all uphill back to the car. There are tons of viewpoints, points of interest, and hikes all along the road back to Oso. Newhalem is very cool to explore and there are countless waterfalls and creeks to visit. This drive can easily fill the day and be repeated with new sights and activities each time all year round.
