Suggested Itinerary: (Head east or west, but make Big 4 Ice Caves the main stop)
NOTE: The east side of this loop is closed in the winter. In the summer it is a gravel road that can be rough, but I’ve driven it in a minivan. The map does not show a complete loop, but I just couldn’t get it to fill in. The road does connect.
I would head east through Darrington in the morning as there are parks and easy trails to explore on the way to Big 4. Also, there will be less cars on the gravel road that churn up dust that you have to drive through or behind in the morning hours. After Big 4 I would stop to look at the Verlot ranger station building and the Granite Falls fish trap before heading up the Jordan River to get back to Oso. So many hiking options along this route.
