The Equines (That Means ‘Horses’ in German)
Silky
Silky is a farm OG, here before we arrived. She is the queen bee and loves, nay, demands her pellets. Doesn’t matter what kind either. If you rustle some pellets in a pan near her she instantly turns from crotchety old lady into a playful pony. She’s a sweetie.
Dottie
Dottie, “Doty Belle”, joined us in October of 2022 due to her owners needing to sell their home and move out of state. She is a 24 year old ex-racehorse and after her racing days were through, her original owner became abusive and neglectful. She lived in terrible conditions for several years until 2013 when Save A Forgotten Equine discovered her and took her into their rescue facility, cared for her, and rehabbed her. She lived there for 6 years before being adopted. It took her about 2 months to really come around and be comfortable on the farm, but now she seems at home and comes searching for carrots whenever we call for her. We love having her! Despite sharing her space with 2 other miniature horses for the past 4 years, Dottie wasn’t interested in Silky at first. Every time Silky would get close Dottie would give her that mare-ish yell and step back. After a few weeks of this, Dottie finally gave up the fight and accepted Silky as part of her herd.
Dazzle
Razzle Dazzle is even smaller than Silky, which I didn’t think was possible. She’s very sweet and gentle, and packs a lot of energy into that tiny body! Dazzle and Pumpkin Pie came as part of a bonded trio along side Dottie. She spends most of her time rolling around in mud. When she first arrived, Silky took quite an interest in her off the bat. They tried to hang out, but Dottie and Pumpkin Pie weren’t so sure and they did their best to keep Silky at arms length. That didn’t last too long. After several weeks of interval exposure, they’ve all become best buds.
Pumpkin Pie
Pumpkin Pie has a lot of attitude for such a small animal. It took her and Silky a few months to become friends. There was a lot of pushing and yelling at first. But now they’re thick as thieves. When she isn’t pushing Dottie away from Dottie’s own food, she spends her time rolling in mud with Dazzle.
